A mysterious metallic object weighing approximately 1,100 pounds and measuring 8 feet in diameter fell from the sky into Mukuku Village, Kenya, on Wednesday. Officials are now investigating the origin of the space debris, which has drawn attention to the growing issue of hazardous materials orbiting Earth.

Space Debris Falls in Kenya

The Kenya Space Agency confirmed in a statement that no one was injured during the crash and reassured the public that the debris poses no immediate risk.

 Major Alois Were, an officer with the agency, described the object as “possibly from a rocket separation stage” during an interview with Citizen TV, a Kenyan news station.

Officials have collected samples from the crash site for further analysis to identify its origin. 

Were explained that once the source is determined, the agency plans to leverage “existing legal mechanisms under international law” to hold the responsible party accountable.
