The U.S. Department of Labor announced Monday that Vince Micone will serve as acting labor secretary until President Donald Trump’s nominee, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, is confirmed by the Senate. Micone, currently the deputy assistant secretary for operations in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management, steps into the role as the agency awaits its next confirmed leader.
Micone’s Background
Micone joined the Department of Labor in 2023 and previously held positions at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Treasury. He also contributed to Trump’s 2016 presidential transition team, bringing experience in government operations and management to his interim role.
In a brief statement, the DOL confirmed that Micone will lead the department while Chavez-DeRemer’s confirmation process progresses. A date for her hearing has not been set.
Key Leadership Changes
Trump also selected former U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Vice Chair Keith Sonderling to serve as deputy labor secretary. Sonderling, who has worked in the DOL’s Wage and Hour Division, will serve as senior adviser to the secretary during the transition period.
