In a somber development, two female Nevada hikers were found lifeless in the Valley of Fire State Park on Saturday afternoon, as reported by state police.
Hikers Reported Missing by Concerned Onlookers
Earlier on Saturday, several fellow hikers had spotted the women entering the park. Growing apprehensive when the Nevada hikers failed to return, they sought a welfare check from Nevada State Police, as per a statement released Sunday.
State Police and Search and Rescue Operations
Reacting to the concerned request, Nevada State Police officers arrived on the scene around 2:48 p.m. The search led them to the unfortunate discovery of one of the Nevada hikers’ bodies on a trail within the park.
In response to the dire situation, they called for assistance from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s search and rescue team, which subsequently found the other hiker’s body in a nearby canyon.
Investigation Underway Amidst Heat Warning
The cause of death for the Nevada hikers remains unknown at this time. An investigation has been launched by the police to unravel the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
