As the Government Shutdown stretched into its 35th day, radio host Charlamagne tha God used his platform to plead with Democratic lawmakers to end the stalemate, arguing that Americans are suffering while political leaders refuse to compromise.

During Monday’s episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne criticized Democrats for rejecting multiple continuing resolution (CR) bills proposed by Republicans — eight in total — that would temporarily fund the government.

Charlamagne Calls for Relief of Government Shutdown 

“The healthcare is going to go up anyway because of the ‘big beautiful bill,’” Charlamagne said. “If it’s going up anyway, what’s the point of Democrats taking the stand to keep the government still closed?”

His co-host Mimi Brown agreed, noting that many Americans have already received notices about rising healthcare premiums. Charlamagne added, “At this point, if the premiums have already gone up, if they’re set for a year, at least give the people some relief and get the government back open.”

Government Shutdown Impact on Workers and Public Services

Union leaders have warned that the prolonged shutdown is straining federal employees. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), representing over 820,000 workers, called on Congress to act.

“No half measures, and no gamesmanship,” said AFGE President Everett Kelley. “Put every single federal worker back on the job with full back pay — today.”

A coalition of aviation unions — including the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association — has endorsed the Republicans’ stopgap bill, citing safety concerns.

“The biggest way to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of our national air traffic control system is to pass a clean continuing resolution,” said SAPA President Jody Reven.

Political Fractures and Calls for Compromise

The standoff has revealed deep divisions within the Democratic Party. Senator John Fetterman broke ranks, stating, “It’s an easy choice to put America first.”

Charlamagne echoed that sentiment, telling Democrats directly:

“Democrats, you fought. It seems like you lost the fight. At this point, go on and give it up. At least give the people some relief by getting the government back open. Let these people get their SNAP benefits. Let these government workers get their checks.”

His co-host DJ Envy added, “It seems like [a] pride thing now.”

With public frustration mounting and key unions demanding resolution, the pressure is intensifying on both parties to break the deadlock and restore normal government operations.
