SpaceX $1.5 Trillion IPO

From rocket launches to oil fields and crypto wallets, the global deal mill churned hard this week. At the center of the speculation: Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which is reportedly charting a course toward one of the most audacious public offerings in market history.

Below is a snapshot of the most talked-about deal rumors shaping boardrooms and trading floors alike.

SpaceX Preps for June IPO at a Colossal Valuation

SpaceX is laying the groundwork for an initial public offering that could value the private aerospace powerhouse at roughly $1.5 trillion, according to reports Wednesday from The Financial Times and Reuters.

The Elon Musk-led company is said to be targeting a June debut and could raise as much as $50 billion, a figure that would place the offering among the largest the world has ever seen. If realized, a SpaceX $1.5 Trillion IPO would vault the company into rarefied air, rivaling the market value of the biggest names in global finance and technology.

Chevron Seeks Better Terms Before Lukoil Deal

Oil major Chevron is pressing Iraq for improved economic terms before moving forward with a potential purchase of assets belonging to Russia’s Lukoil, according to a Financial Times report Tuesday.

Chevron is reportedly seeking stronger returns from the West Qurna 2 oil field, which Iraq nationalized earlier this year after the U.S. imposed sanctions on Lukoil amid efforts to pressure Russia over its war in Ukraine. Earlier rumors suggested private equity firm Carlyle was also weighing a bid for the assets.

Ledger Weighs $4 Billion U.S. IPO

Cryptocurrency wallet company Ledger is exploring a U.S. public listing that could value the firm at about $4 billion, The Financial Times reported Jan. 23.

Founded in 2015, Ledger bills itself as a cutting-edge platform used by millions of individuals and hundreds of enterprises. The company has reportedly engaged Goldman Sachs and is said to be working alongside Jefferies and Barclays, with plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange later this year.

Merck Walks Away From $30 Billion Biotech Talks

Pharmaceutical heavyweight Merck has stepped back from negotiations to acquire Revolution Medicines Inc., a cancer-focused biotech firm, according to a Sunday report from The Wall Street Journal.

The talks centered on a deal that would have valued Revolution at about $30 billion. Discussions reportedly broke down over price, though sources said negotiations could resume later or another bidder could emerge. Revolution’s experimental therapies target lung, pancreatic and colon cancers.

U.S. and Japan Eye Synthetic Diamond Plant

The United States and Japan are considering building a synthetic diamond production facility on U.S. soil, Reuters reported Tuesday. The project would form part of Japan’s $550 billion investment package and could be among the initiatives announced ahead of a U.S. visit by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

The plant would reportedly involve Element Six, a unit of De Beers Group, as the allies push to secure materials critical for semiconductor and high-precision manufacturing.

PE-Backed Leica Considers €1 Billion Sale

Leica Camera, backed by private equity giant Blackstone, is in talks to sell a controlling stake in a transaction that could value the company at about €1 billion, or roughly $1.2 billion, Bloomberg reported Jan. 23.

Blackstone acquired a 44% stake in Leica in 2011. Now, the firm and Leica board chairman Andreas Kaufmann are said to be working with advisers, with HSG and Altor Equity Partners among the potential bidders.
