Advocacy Group Retreats From NY Bight Offshore Battle

BOEM, still charting its course, signaled its intentions in July 2022 for a thorough environmental impact analysis, even as they reported receiving site plans without any solid construction blueprints for the New York Bight as of late September.

Rallying its forces, “Save Long Beach Island” sought to expand its challenge, encompassing the entirety of Atlantic Coast’s offshore wind endeavors. The federal government, however, found the new sails to be cut from the same cloth, bearing the same flaws as the initial complaint.

The Breeze Before the Storm?

Despite the advocacy group’s retreat this Tuesday, the waters remain murky. The group’s ambitions to compel BOEM for broader environmental scrutiny and project examinations, the government argues, aren’t grounded in the Administrative Procedure Act.

While the immediate tussle has calmed, with the representatives from both sides maintaining radio silence, one can’t help but wonder if this is just the calm before another storm in the New York Bight offshore wind saga.
