In the pre-dawn hours of Monday, an incident involving a stolen car and a subsequent confrontation with a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer unfolded in Alameda County.
This tense incident, which took place in Ashland, an unincorporated area near San Leandro, ended in the death of one suspect and the arrest of two others.
Alameda County :The High-Speed Chase and Collision
According to Alameda County Sheriff’s Lt. Tya Modeste, a CHP officer and a deputy were both responding to a report of a high-speeding Hyundai Elantra along Interstate 580.
The speeding vehicle, which was later identified as stolen from Hayward, ended up crashing in the 1600 block of 163rd Avenue.
In an audacious escape attempt, three suspects wearing ski masks fled from the wreckage.

Modeste painted a vivid picture of the ensuing drama.
Arriving on the scene, the deputy witnessed a CHP officer in a pitched struggle with two of the suspects.
The CHP officer, appearing to be on his back on the ground, seemed to be wrestling with the suspects over his weapon.
