Border Stampede Chaos: Texas Judge Orders Release of Migrants Involved in Rio Grande Riot

Border stampede

On Easter Sunday, an El Paso, Texas judge ordered the release of migrants accused of being involved in a border stampede and riot. The migrants overwhelmed National Guard troops along the Rio Grande earlier this month.

Judge Acosta said, "It is the ruling of the court that all the rioting participation cases will be released on their own recognizance."

In Texas crossings at the southwest border totaled 68,260 in January, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.

This indicates a drop from December when the 149,806 migrants who entered. It was still among the highest rates in the country.

Over the last 3.5 years during the Biden administration the numbers have skyrocketed.

Critics claim that when President Biden dismantled former President Trump's executive orders for Border Protection, he created the chaos.

Governor Greg Abbott has championed stricter immigration measures.

The Biden Administration and immigration advocates, continue to say that the bill is unconstitutional. And the authority to detain or deport migrants rests entirely with the federal government.

The Biden administration continues to fight Texas in court.

Texas Senate Bill 4

Governor Greg Abbott has championed stricter immigration measures.

Texas Senate Bill 4 is the state's response to the border crisis. This law makes entering Texas illegally a state crime. It empowers state judges to order that migrants who violate the law deported.

Texas law also allows more construction of the border wall, installation of buoy barriers in the riverways that border Mexico. And putting up razor wire along the border.

The Supreme Court voted two weeks ago to allow Texas Senate Bill 4 to be implemented.

Hours after the U.S. Supreme Court gave the green light, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals put the state bill back on hold pending Texas' appeal of a federal judge's ruling last month that blocked the measure.

In addition to suing Abbott's administration to strike down SB4, the White House has also fought Texas on its razor wire installations and other deterrent methods.

On X, Governor Abbott posted on March 20 that, “While the fight continues in court to uphold SB4, Texas continues to arrest illegal immigrants for criminal trespass.”
“More than 41,000 criminal arrests have been made.”
We continue to build border wall, use NG to erect razor wire to repel migrants & keep buoy barriers in river.”

Border Stampede Chaos

Videos circulating on social media captured scenes of unrest as a group of asylum seekers attempted to breach the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso.

The surge overwhelmed National Guard troops and raised concerns about border security. Despite a slight decrease in border crossings from December, Texas continues to face significant challenges in managing the influx of migrants.

In a surprising ruling Magistrate Judge Humberto Acosta ordered the release of the migrants implicated in the border stampede.

The border stampede incident in Texas is a reminder of the issues in immigration enforcement and border security in the US.  The release of those involved serves as a reminder that there is no operational policy and apparently no consequences of the behavior.
