The Clinton Epstein Files Hearing unfolded under intense political glare as Hillary Clinton appeared before a U.S. House panel investigating the crimes of late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The former Democratic presidential nominee agreed to testify alongside her husband, Bill Clinton, after weeks of resistance. Both had previously described the summons as politically motivated. Their decision to cooperate effectively sidestepped the threat of contempt-of-Congress proceedings.
From Defiance to Deposition
The Clintons’ reversal came as a potential contempt vote loomed in the House Oversight Committee. Some Democratic members had voted in favor of initiating contempt measures, escalating tensions inside the chamber.
Hillary Clinton has said she does not recall ever meeting or speaking with Epstein. Bill Clinton, who acknowledged knowing Epstein, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or awareness of Epstein’s criminal conduct. He has said he severed ties with the financier roughly two decades ago and expressed regret over the association. Epstein died in 2019 while in federal custody.
Bill Clinton is scheduled to provide his own testimony Friday.
