Copilot AI Coming to the Pentagon: Microsoft Plans Secure Version for Department of Defense

Microsoft is preparing to roll out a version of its Copilot AI tool for the Department of Defense (DoD), marking a significant milestone in its effort to expand artificial intelligence into high-security government environments.

The tech giant confirmed that Microsoft 365 Copilot for DoD environments is in development and could become available as early as summer 2025, pending security and compliance approvals.

In a recent official blog update for government clients, Microsoft wrote:

Copilot is Microsoft’s flagship generative AI tool, integrated across popular Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and SharePoint. It uses AI models to help users summarize content, automate formatting, draft emails and reports, and generate insights from large datasets.
