Pittsburgh-based U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced Wednesday that he will resign ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, joining a wave of resignations across the U.S. Department of Justice. His resignation takes effect on Jan. 19.
Olshan, a nominee of President Joe Biden, has served as U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania since June 2023. In his statement, he reflected on his time in office, expressing pride in the work of his colleagues.
“The dedicated public servants who walk the halls of our office are second to none in their clear-eyed and even-handed commitment to pursuing justice on behalf of the more than three million people who call the Western District of Pennsylvania home,” Olshan said.
He praised the career civil servants he worked alongside, including prosecutors, civil litigators, and professional staff, describing the experience as “the privilege of my career.”
“I am grateful to President Biden, Senator John Fetterman, and former Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey for their trust and faith in my ability to lead the office,” Olshan added. “I will always treasure the 17 years I have devoted to representing the United States and working to defend and uphold the rule of law on behalf of the Department of Justice and the American people.”
