In a tragic incident at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, a man has been apprehended and accused of the murder of his ex-wife.

According to local authorities, she was stabbed to death. The horrifying event unfolded on May 28, around 1:30 p.m., when the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call concerning a potential suicide.

Upon entering the hotel room, law enforcement discovered Fernando Gomez, who had sustained injuries to his forearm and neck. Tragically, a lifeless woman lay on the floor, later identified as Gomez's ex-wife, Nydia Lopez-Garcia, as reported by KTNV.

During questioning, Gomez revealed that he had been married to Nydia for 14 years, but they separated in 2022.

He claimed that despite their split, they occasionally met up. Gomez said that their meetings often escalated into fights. According to KTNV, Gomez alleged that Nydia had previously suggested they should "just kill each other and leave everything to their children."

Several weeks prior to the incident, Gomez allegedly invited Lopez-Garcia to Las Vegas. According to the suspect, he told her he wasn't a good father or husband during their marriage. 

Nydia allegedly agreed to the trip, and to conceal their plans from their children, she informed them that they were going to Las Vegas with a man named Sam who had covered the expenses, as per KTNV.

Gomez admits to murder of his ex-wife

Court records indicate that the children and Lopez-Garcia had rooms at the MGM Grand, while Gomez had a room at Mandalay Bay.

According to the arrest report, initially, Gomez and Lopez-Garcia had no apparent issues. However, around 4 a.m. on May 28, they returned to Gomez's room, and a physical altercation ensued. 

Gomez shattered a bottle of Johnny Walker on the ground during the fight. He claimed that Nydia approached him, grabbed a piece of glass, and held it to her throat. 

Gomez alleged that she taunted him, saying "do it." He says that as he applied pressure with the glass, she laughed. And then he stabbed her to death. 

Gomez's wounds were all self-inflicted including cuts on his own arms and neck. Then he claims to have lost consciousness.

When Gomez regained consciousness, he proceeded to clean up in the bathroom. And then contacted a friend, confessing to his actions. 

Gomez later dialed 911, admitting, "I have made a mistake of my life. I fought with the mother of my kids last night, and we tried to kill each other, and she's dead," according to KTNV.

 Authorities promptly arrested Gomez and transported him to the University Medical Center for his injuries.
