Florida’s helmet law was amended in 2000. The law no longer requires motorcyclists over 21, who are insured with a minimum of $10,000, to wear helmets.

There are helmet laws in fifteen states and the District of Columbia requiring helmets for all riders on any motorcycle-type vehicles. In those states in 2020, only 11% of motorcycle rider deaths occurred where no helmet was worn.

In comparison in states that do not require helmets 57% of motorcyclists who died were not wearing a helmet.

Helmets are not always required but there are strongly recommended.
