Florida Focuses on Recovery as the Worst of Hurricane Idalia Passes

Earlier this week, the state of Florida quickly began to prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Idalia. With regular updates from Gov. Ron DeSantis and other officials throughout the state, Floridians began hunkering down, purchasing sandbags, and securing their homes.

Thankfully, the worst of Hurricane Idalia has past. Florida now remains in the process of recovering from certain damages that were inflicted by the storm.

Local officials have also reopened access to beach bridges, roads, and barrier islands that were previously restricted due to flooding, fallen debris, and other complications.

What to know about the aftermath of Idalia

In the days leading up to the hurricane, DeSantis received considerable accolades for his leadership and the steps he employed to maximize Florida’s preparedness. In handling the aftermath of Idalia, the governor remains very much on the ground.

During a recent interview from the Tallahassee governor’s mansion, DeSantis revealed the presence of search and rescue teams, linemen, ready supplies of gasoline to combat potential fuel shortages, and National Guard deployments.
