Joe Biden's former White House stenographer Mike McCormick said he thinks the Democratic presidential hopeful "lost a step."

McCormick made the statement during a recent interview with the Washington Free Beacon.

According to McCormick, he is quite familiar with Biden's speaking style because he worked for the former Vice President from 2011 to 2017. He transcribed his speeches, public conversations with foreign leaders, and off-the-record briefings with reporters at the White House.

McCormick thinks Biden is no longer an enigmatic speaker

He noted that Biden is known as an enigmatic speaker throughout his long career as a politician. The former Vice President is capable of connecting with his audience and would often make speeches off-the-cuff.  That has changed since 2017,  said McCormick.

According to him, "He’d just make a big joke out of it, and go straight from the hip. And notice, he’s not doing that anymore."

Comparing Biden's prowess of old to today, McCormick noted, "He read that [Democratic National Committee speech] verbatim … it’s not Joe Biden anymore."

McCormick's point adds weight to a growing narrative that Biden is incapable of handling the rigorous duties of the presidency where quick thinking and sweeping oratory is a must.

President Trump has made Biden's declining faculties a mainstay of his campaign, giving Biden the moniker 'Sleepy Joe.' On top of nicknames, the Trump campaign has issued attack ads suggesting Biden's speech struggles are an indication of old age.

Just last week, Biden stumbled in multiple speeches. During a Sep. 4 conference in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden made the mistake of reading 'END OF QUOTE' off the teleprompter.

Arguably, the Biden campaign's strategy echoes much of what McCormick has claimed. For one, Biden's recent visit to Kenosha, Wisconsin following the shooting of Jacob Blake raised eyebrows across various media outlets after it was found that questioners were given a script. The plan backfired after a female questioner objected to following the script she was "told to go off."

The medical assessment confirms Biden is "healthy and vigorous"

Biden has fired back on questions of mental fitness with a recent medical assessment declaring the former vice president as a “healthy, vigorous, 77-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.”

Whether McCormick's claim remains unproven, there is plenty of evidence that Biden is nothing short of a gaffe machine. The question of the day being, is Biden just a gaffe machine, or is this something bigger?
