In the 2024 presidential race, the Democratic ticket featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is the talk of the nation. This ticket came to be unexpectedly when Harris took the place of President Biden, who ceased his reelection run less than one month ago.
Before Walz emerged as Harris’ running mate, he remained on the shortlist alongside Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly. Since joining the Democratic ticket, however, he’s received praise for his record as a coach, teacher, and professed champion of the middle class.
Right now, polls show that Harris-Walz is quickly erasing any perceived advantages held by the Trump-Vance ticket. Though in order to make it across the finish line, the vice president and her running mate need to appeal to a variety of voters, including new members of the electorate who weren’t able to cast ballots in 2020 or 2016.
On July 25, Harris posted her very first TikTok, a move widely seen as outreach to Gen Z voters. Earlier today, Walz joined her in setting up an account on the popular social media platform.
What to know about Walz’s presence on TikTok
The Minnesota governor’s first post features him at a park with his dog Scout and announcing his entry onto TikTok. The short video, already reposted by Harris and the official Kamala HQ account, has garnered over 259,000 likes, along with thousands of comments, saves, and shares.
