The Build Back Better Act met its demise back in December. Much of the nation breathed a sigh of relief when Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin announced he would join all 50 Republican senators and oppose the legislation. In doing this, Manchin blocked the possibility of Biden ever getting the Build Back Better Act passed into law. Due to the 50/50 partisan split of senators, Biden can't afford to lose a single vote if he wants his agendas to advance. There were countless problems associated with the Build Back Better Act. For one, the legislation would have granted the IRS reports on American citizens' bank accounts with more than $10,000 in balances or transactions. Build Back Better also would've significantly run up the national deficit, incentivized illegal immigration, and much worse. Last year, Manchin made it known after various talks with the White House that he couldn't and wouldn't vote for Build Back Better. However, since this past December, some Democrats have remained ceaselessly committed to resurrecting Build Back Better. Therefore, Sen. Manchin is once again maintaining he will not vote for the legislation.

No comeback for the Build Back Better Act

During the State of the Union address, Biden repeatedly tried to sell his failed spending bill. The president declared the Build Back Better Act would pave the way towards reducing child care costs, tackling climate change, and more. However, these attempts to win Manchin's vote did not pan out as Biden expected. Following Biden's promotion of his unsuccessful bill, the Democrat senator faced questions about his views on the Build Back Better Act. Manchin clearly declared "nothing changed" for him. Likewise, he pointed out that people in his party who insist on reviving Biden's agenda "just can't help themselves." Later, the West Virginia lawmaker commented that spending more money never leads to less expensive goods or services. Manchin also caught the public's attention when he sat with GOP lawmakers, instead of Democrats, during the State of the Union address.

Will the Biden administration get the memo?

This Tuesday's State of the Union address does not mark the first time Biden pleaded with Manchin for his 'yes' vote on Build Back Better. However, each and every time, the Democrat senator reiterates that his answer is no. Perhaps Manchin's latest rejection will convince the White House to move on.
