“The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimized when they come forward,” she added. “Now I finally have an opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms I can agree to.”
The agreed-upon settlement of $1 million, covered by Heard’s insurance company, was met with a promise from Depp and his legal team to donate the funds to deserving charities.
Depp’s lawyers, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez expressed their satisfaction with the resolution. In a statement, they agreed that their client’s priority was to bring the truth to light throughout the legal process.
