A man was shot near the White House in Washington, D.C., shortly after midnight on Sunday following an “armed confrontation” with law enforcement, according to the U.S. Secret Service. The incident occurred near the intersection of 17th and F Streets NW.

Suicidal Individual Tracked to D.C.
On Saturday, local police had alerted authorities about a “suicidal individual” who was possibly traveling to Washington, D.C., from Indiana. Secret Service personnel later located the individual’s vehicle and identified a person on foot who matched the description.
Man Shot Near White House Identified
Authorities identified the man as 27-year-old Andrew Dawson, a resident of North Manchester, Indiana, a town of just over 5,000 people about 100 miles north of Indianapolis.
Indiana police sources may have warned D.C. law enforcement about Dawson’s potential suicide risk. However, Indiana State Police Sgt. Ron Galaviz stated that the agency did not share information with D.C. authorities.
Confrontation and Shooting
Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi stated that the shooting occurred “following an armed confrontation” with law enforcement. According to reports, Dawson was armed with both a gun and a knife.
