Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: Accomplice Not Ruled Out as Investigation Intensifies in Tucson

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that an accomplice aided the suspected abductor seen on security footage outside Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona, home, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed. Guthrie, 84, was reportedly taken from her residence in the early hours of February 1, sparking a multi-agency search that has since drawn national attention. Authorities believe the abduction was targeted rather than random.

Security Footage Shows Suspicious Activity
Footage from Guthrie’s Google Nest doorbell shows a man tampering with the camera around the time she disappeared. This is the only video that has been recovered so far, although engineers continue working on additional cameras from the property to recover more usable footage. Investigators remain hopeful that tech companies may uncover further evidence to help identify the suspect.

Reward Increased for Information Leading to Arrest
The 88-CRIME tipline announced an increased reward of $102,500, including a $100,000 anonymous donation, for information leading to an arrest. This is in addition to the $100,000 reward the FBI is offering. Authorities have yet to name any suspects or persons of interest. The suspect captured on video is described as a male between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches with an average build.

Guthrie Family Fully Cooperating
Sheriff Nanos emphasized that Nancy Guthrie’s family has been completely cooperative. Savannah Guthrie, Annie Guthrie, and Camron Guthrie, along with their spouses, have been cleared as suspects. “We’ve taken their cars, their homes, their phones, but everything has been provided voluntarily. They are victims, not suspects,” Nanos said. Guthrie was last seen the night of January 31, after returning home from an evening spent with her daughter and son-in-law. Since then, family members have appeared in videos appealing for her safe return.

Investigators Use Advanced Technology
Law enforcement is using a combination of methods to track Guthrie. DNA collected from gloves found two miles from her home has not produced any matches in FBI databases, and additional samples from the residence are under laboratory analysis. Investigators are also using a “signal sniffer” device in an attempt to detect any signals from Guthrie’s pacemaker, which showed a disconnect from her phone the night she disappeared.

FBI Probes Local Gun Purchases
Sources indicate that the FBI has investigated gun purchases in the Tucson area, showing images and names of individuals to local store owners to determine if the suspect or any potential accomplices may have acquired firearms in recent months. Law enforcement continues to follow all leads as they seek to locate Guthrie safely.

Ongoing Search and Public Appeals
The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. The case continues to gain national attention, highlighting both the complexity of the investigation and the advanced methods law enforcement is employing to locate Guthrie. The reward and ongoing efforts demonstrate the urgency of the search and the dedication of the agencies involved.
