In CPAC Trump polls on top
On March 4 former U.S. President Donald Trump gave the keynote address at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. The results of the poll are not surprising, as Trump has consistently come out on top in CPAC's informal polls since leaving office. In fact, he easily won straw polls at major CPAC gatherings in 2022, with 69% of attendees picking him in a CPAC straw poll in August, and 62% in the recent YouGov/Yahoo poll. Although Haley was met with pro-Trump chants after her speech at the conference, about 52% of respondents approved of her running for the Republican presidential nomination, compared to 24% who disapproved. A mid-February Rasmussen Reports poll found that while some voters believe President Joe Biden is healthy enough to do the job, a majority agree that his age disqualifies the 80-year-old for a second term in the White House. The poll found that 30% of likely U.S. voters are very confident that Biden is physically and mentally up to the job of being President, while another 21% say they are somewhat confident in his capability. However, 10% are not very confident, and 37% are not at all confident. It remains to be seen how these polls will affect the 2024 presidential race, as the election is still over a year away. However, they do provide some insight into the current sentiments among Republican voters and the general public regarding the potential candidates. And it’s clear that Trump still holds a significant amount of support.
