The French policeman who allegedly fired the fatal shot has been charged with homicide, with his claim of feeling threatened under scrutiny.

Violent reactions to Nahel’s death have exploded into nationwide fury, leading to the arrests of 667 people, according to French officials.
Despite a formidable police presence and the deployment of 40,000 officers, including elite units, protesters ransacked shops and set cars aflame.
The violence has even extended into largely peaceful demonstrations, causing injuries amongst the police ranks and leading to curfews in various regions.
