A Southeast trucking operator that once grew from a single rig into a regional fleet has hit the brakes. Robert Bearden Trucking filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to federal court records, marking a dramatic turn for the Georgia-based carrier.
The voluntary petition was submitted Jan. 26 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. The Cairo, Georgia-headquartered company listed between one and 49 creditors in its filing.
Assets and Liabilities Listed at Up to $50,000
In court documents, the debtor estimated both its assets and liabilities to fall within a broad range of $0 to $50,000. The filing also indicated that funds could be available for distribution to unsecured creditors — a small glimmer of hope in an otherwise stark financial disclosure.
As of early February, records from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration showed the company operating 143 power units with 128 drivers. The agency’s data also reflected that Robert Bearden Trucking maintained active interstate operating authority at the time it sought bankruptcy protection.
