Paul has long complained that foreign aid often does not reach those it is intended for. He says that in many cases it is given by the US to buy political favors and does not reach those in need.
“Americans don’t want their government to borrow more money to spend on foreign aid,” Paul asserted. He argued that foreign aid diverts resources from the U.S. middle and lower classes to wealthy entities abroad, with intermediaries profiting along the way.
Paul deemed the practice not only economically harmful but also morally questionable and unconstitutional.
Paul also said that “Foreign aid is taking money from the poor people of a rich country and giving it to the rich people of a poor country.”
