“We love and support Brittney and at this time our main concern is her safety, physical and mental health, and her safe return home,” the team continued.

The WNBA league itself offered Griner “the WNBA’s full support” and called on Russia for “her swift and safe return to the United States.”

The 6′ 9″ Shriner is one of the WNBA stars who spend off-seasons playing overseas. She has been playing for the Moscow-based UMMC Ekaterinburg team since 2014. And makes more than $1 million a season. This is roughly four times what she makes with the Phoenix’s.
