Russian casualties have surged by a staggering 90% as they relentlessly attack the small city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine. The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) has disclosed that Russia’s offensive operations in this region are significantly contributing to this grim statistic.
Avdiivka, a modest city nestled just north of Donetsk, has become a battleground where the Russian military has been striving to gain territory. So far, they aren’t gaining ground. Russia has only made marginal advances. And they have sustained substantial losses in terms of both personnel and weaponry.
The ongoing clashes in Ukraine are primarily concentrated in the southern and eastern regions, where Ukrainian forces are determinedly pushing back against the Russian occupation.
According to the US think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, it appears that Russia’s intent in the Avdiivka area is to divert Ukrainian forces and hinder their repositioning elsewhere on the front lines.
