Mann Act Charges and Legal Debate
Combs was convicted in July on two counts under the Mann Act, a federal law making it illegal to transport people across state or international lines for prostitution. The case involved testimony from his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura and another victim who testified under the pseudonym “Jane.”
The defense argued that the Mann Act should not have applied to Combs, but the jury sided with prosecutors. For background, learn more about the Mann Act here.
Voices of Survivors
Judge Subramanian took time to acknowledge the women who came forward.
“To Ms. Ventura and the other brave survivors that came forward, I want to say first: We heard you. I am proud of you for coming to the court to tell the world what really happened.”
Ventura, who has long spoken out about her relationship with Combs, was praised for her strength in helping prosecutors secure the conviction.
