All of the Taylor Swift master recordings have been reclaimed. This marks a triumphant conclusion to a six-year battle over the rights of the mega star’s early music.
On May 30, 2025, Swift announced that she had purchased the masters of her first six albums, along with associated materials like music videos and unreleased songs, from Shamrock Capital Advisors.
This acquisition grants her full control over the works that defined the first decade of her career.
The Long Road to Reclaiming Her Music
The dispute over Swift’s masters began in 2019 when music executive Scooter Braun acquired Big Machine Records, the label Swift had signed with when she was 15.
This deal included the master recordings of her first six albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation. Swift expressed her dismay over the acquisition, citing past conflicts with Braun and feeling blindsided by the sale.
In response, Swift embarked on a mission to re-record her early albums, releasing “Taylor’s Version” editions of Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989.
