On New Year’s morning, just outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded, killing a person inside the vehicle and injuring several bystanders, local officials reported.
According to three senior law enforcement officials interviewed by NBC News the incident is being investigated as a possible terrorist attack. No motive has been established.
Cybertruck Explosion Investigated as Terrorism
The explosion occurred in the hotel’s valet area and was captured on video by hotel guests.
The blast came just hours after a separate attack in New Orleans, where a driver in a rented pickup truck flying an ISIS flag plowed into New Year’s Eve revelers, killing 15 and injuring 30. The suspect in that incident was shot and killed by police.
Notably, both the pickup truck used in New Orleans and the Cybertruck in Las Vegas were rented from the same company, Turo, according to Clark County/Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill.
