Starlinked Tariffs and Copper Crackdowns

This announcement follows Trump’s broader tariff push, including:

  • A 50% tariff on copper imports, announced Tuesday

  • A floated 200% tariff on pharmaceuticals

  • A 10% universal baseline tariff introduced in April
These moves are part of a sweeping revival of so-called reciprocal tariff policies, though Trump had temporarily paused enforcement to allow time for international trade deals to materialize. Deals with the U.K. and Vietnam have reportedly been finalized during this window.

USTR Probe on the Horizon

Trump said he has directed U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to immediately launch a Section 301 investigation into Brazil’s digital trade practices, citing what he called “continued attacks” on U.S. tech firms and other unfair trade behaviors.

A Section 301 probe could open the door to further penalties if investigators determine Brazil’s actions hurt U.S. commerce—a process that once fueled Trump’s tariff war with China.
