On the other hand, McConnell confirmed to reporters what Trump said about their friendship and working relationship.

The senator said, “I want to underscore what the President said. We have the same agenda. We’ve been friends and acquaintances for a long time.” He added that they are talking to each other frequently on the weekends about issues. However, they don’t release readout every time they have a conversation.

Furthermore, McConnell said their top legislative agenda is “tax reduction” for the American people. According to him,  “I think what the President and I would both like to say to you today, contrary to what some of you may have reported: We are together totally on this agenda to move America forward.”

Trump will try to convince Bannon not to challenge some GOP incumbents

Steve Bannon in a meeting with President Trump

When reporters asked Trump about Steve Bannon, the President said his former chief strategist is a long-time friend. He said Bannon is doing what he thinks is the right thing.

Trump also indicated his intention to “talk him out” of trying to unseat some of the incumbent Republicans including McConnell. Bannon wants to replace them with candidates who will truly support the President’s legislative agenda.
