TEHRAN, Iran – In a dramatic escalation of global tensions, the United States and Israel launched coordinated military strikes against Iran early Saturday, marking one of the most significant confrontations between Washington and Tehran in decades.
President Donald J. Trump confirmed “major combat operations” had begun — part of what U.S. officials have termed “Operation Epic Fury.” The strikes targeted Iranian missile systems, naval forces and leadership compounds, with Trump asserting the goal was to neutralize imminent threats to American security and curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
In a rare and striking address, the president also urged the Iranian people to rise against the Islamic Republic’s leadership once the military phase ends, framing the action as both strategic and humanitarian.
Iran responded forcefully. Within hours, Tehran’s military launched missile strikes at Israel and multiple U.S. military bases across the Middle East, including facilities in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and other allied nations.
The Iranian leadership vowed “no leniency” and promised continued military retaliation. In some regions, airspace closures and sirens alerted civilians to escalating threats.
