The U.S. and South Korea are striving to keep the highly expected U.S. meeting with North Korea on track. But President Trump stated that there is a very big chance that it won’t happen as scheduled.
Moon Jae-in is the President of South Korea. He reminded Trump on Tuesday that the future and the fate of the Korean Peninsula depend on the U.S. and North Korea’s summit.
Peace Chance
The summit is scheduled for June 12 in Singapore. This meeting is offering a chance for peace on the Korean Peninsula. But it can also come out as a diplomatic failure. A failure could possibly allow North Korea to advance their nuclear weapons program.
The preparations are still in progress according to U.S. officials. Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State, said that the U.S. is continuing with the plans.
Trump’s hesitation brought concern if the President can make a nuclear deal with Kim Jong Un, leader of North Korea.
Rescheduled, Not Canceled
Trump suggested the meeting could be rescheduled rather than canceled. He stated that the meeting might not happen on June 12. He also said that there is still a good chance that the summit will happen then.
