Unveiled at the Google I/O 2023 event, Google SGE introduces a familiar yet unique approach to AI-powered search. Unlike Bing AI, Google’s AI functions seamlessly within the existing search bar interface.
Upon conducting a search, users will now find generative AI results displayed in a shaded section below the search bar but above the standard web results. By tapping a button, users can expand the snapshot, revealing cards with sourced articles that provide key information and links for further exploration.
Additionally, users can ask follow-up questions with a simple tap.
Google’s vision for this experiment extends beyond its initial release. The company plans to continuously update and improve the generative AI capabilities, making search even more natural and intuitive. User feedback will play an important role in shaping the future of AI-powered search.
