Anna Tsavera, the 35-year-old deputy editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Russia's widely-known pro-Putin newspaper, has been found dead in her Moscow apartment. 

This comes just over a year after the mysterious demise of her former boss, Vladimir Sungorkin. He succumbed to a purported "heart attack" during a business trip to eastern Russia. However, the Independent reported that his body showed significant signs of suffocation. 

The circumstances surrounding both deaths have raised eyebrows and cast a shadow over the Putin-branded newspaper.

Anna Tsavera's body was discovered by her parents after she failed to make contact with them for several days. 

She had complained of feeling unwell, suffering from a high fever, and a respiratory viral infection. 

Her passing has prompted a Russian police investigation. And very little information is being released.

Before going to work for Komsomolskaya, she was a deputy editor at the independent Echo Moscow radio station.

She also worked at the state news agency TASS.

Tsavera had been an integral part of Komsomolskaya Pravda for six years, overseeing content on the newspaper's website, which boasts 83.9 million readers, as of October 2023. 

The paper was founded in 1925. And it has since added a huge online reach. 

It is known as Putin’s “favorite paper,” and the official voice of the Central Committee of the Komsomol, or communist youth league.

The sudden loss of such a key figure within the organization raises questions about the stability and security of Russia's media landscape.

The eerie parallel to her boss's death deepens the intrigue.

 Vladimir Sungorkin, the editor-in-chief who passed away in September 2022, had been a controversial figure, facing sanctions from the European Union Commission.

 They claimed his role in disseminating what they described as "aggressive anti-Ukraine and anti-Western propaganda" justified the sanctions.

The European Commission's sanctions depicted Sungorkin as a key actor in foreign information manipulation and interference activities, suggesting a connection to the Putin regime's aggressive actions in Ukraine.

The newspaper was accused of undermining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

The Russian Death List

There have been dozens of untimely or mysterious deaths since the start of Putin’s war. The death list spans the globe. 

Several people “fell” from windows out of tall buildings. Several supposedly murdered their families and then committed suicide. Many died of unexplained or sudden illnesses. And then there was that plane crash that took out the rebellious Wagner boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin.  

As the investigation into Anna Tsavera's death unfolds, it draws attention not only to the personal tragedies of those involved but also to the broader implications for media and political landscapes in Russia. 

The shadows of suspicion and uncertainty that loom over Komsomolskaya Pravda continue to deepen.

Readers of the paper and the international community have noticed the mysterious death list of the Russian elite. And it seems that the list is growing. It includes Putin’s advocates, as well as his critics.
