According to current polling the 2024 Presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump remains in a dead heat less than three weeks before the election.

Current Polling

Trump has regained a slim lead over Harris, according to the latest Fox News poll. As of Wednesday, he has a 50%-48% edge among likely voters, a reversal from Harris’ 50%-48% advantage in September.

Trump previously led Harris 50%-49% in August, indicating a back-and-forth race between the two candidates.

Most of the polls released in the last month are within the margin of error.

In the seven battle ground states the race also remains tight.

Harris Leads in Other Polls

While Trump took the lead in the Fox News poll, Harris still holds the advantage in several other surveys.

A Marist College poll published Wednesday shows Harris with a five-point lead (52%-47%) among likely voters, improving from her two-point lead in September.

Similarly, the Economist/YouGov poll shows Harris maintaining a four-point lead at 49%-45%, matching her performance from last week.

Morning Consult’s latest weekly poll, released Tuesday, reports Harris ahead 50%-46%, a slight decline from her previous 51%-45% lead. Additionally, an Ipsos/Reuters poll gives Harris a 47%-44% edge over Trump.

Closer Margins in Other Surveys

Several other polls reveal much tighter margins between the two candidates. Trump trails Harris by just two points (51%-49%) in a Harvard CAPS/Harris survey of registered voters. The two were also tied in the same group’s September poll.

Another NBC poll shows a deadlock, with both Trump and Harris tied at 48%.

An ABC/Ipsos poll released Sunday gives Harris a narrow two-point advantage (50%-48%), but this is within the poll’s margin of error.

Similarly, a CBS/YouGov poll from the same day reports a 51%-48% lead for Harris, with slightly closer margins than her 52%-48% advantage last month.

Harris' Overall Performance

Despite the varying poll results, Harris is slightly projected to win heading into the election. 

Harris holds a narrow 50%-49% lead over Trump. The New York Times/Siena poll, released on October 8, shows Harris leading 49%-46%, marking the first time she has outperformed Trump in the group’s polling since July.

Harris’ overall lead has fluctuated over the past few months, peaking at 3.7 points in late August, according to FiveThirtyEight’s weighted polling average. FiveThirtyEight’s election forecast currently favors Harris to win 54 times out of 100, compared to Trump’s 46.

Nate Silver warns the race remains exceptionally close. "I've never seen an election in which the forecast spent more time in the vicinity of 50/50,” Silver wrote.
