The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) has filed a motion with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), urging the agency to halt any decisions regarding SpaceX until an ethics committee can determine how to handle the company's regulatory matters, following Elon Musk's appointment to a new role in the upcoming Trump administration.

The UCCA, which has previously engaged with SpaceX and Musk at the FCC, voiced concerns over the potential conflicts of interest that Musk’s new position could introduce. Musk, who is the owner of SpaceX, satellite internet company Starlink, and other ventures like X Corp. (formerly Twitter) and Tesla, has been tapped to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency — a proposed agency by the Trump administration aimed at reducing government regulations.

In its filing, the UCCA requested that the FCC delay its review of SpaceX’s application to launch approximately 22,000 additional satellites. The group argues that the FCC should avoid making any decisions related to Musk’s companies until it fully understands how his new role could impact the agency's objectivity and decisions.

Arthur Belendiuk, the UCCA’s lead regulatory counsel, emphasized the importance of the FCC upholding the law and ensuring that all regulated companies, regardless of influence, comply with the rules. He pointed out that the potential conflict of interest arising from Musk’s position on a Federal Advisory Committee could violate the Federal Advisory Committee Act.

Musk’s growing influence and his financial support for Trump’s reelection campaign have raised further concerns. His involvement in various high-profile companies and his frequent association with Trump could complicate the FCC’s ability to make impartial decisions regarding SpaceX and other Musk-affiliated companies.

Musk has previously expressed frustration with the Biden administration, particularly over the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) fines imposed on SpaceX for regulatory violations, suggesting that the penalties were politically motivated. The UCCA’s motion adds another layer to the scrutiny Musk faces as he navigates his expanding business and political influence.

The FCC has yet to respond to the UCCA's request, but the agency is expected to weigh the concerns raised as it reviews its regulatory approach to SpaceX under Musk’s increasing political involvement.
