A groundbreaking study suggests that psychic abilities may be innate to humans but are actively suppressed by the brain.

Researchers in Canada, supported by the BIAL Foundation, have identified a specific brain region that acts as a "psi inhibitor," potentially preventing telepathic, clairvoyant, and psychokinetic abilities from physically manifesting.

Dr. Morris Freedman of Baycrest Health Sciences led the study, stating, "Humans may have innate psi abilities that are suppressed by this frontal lobe filter." The research, published in the scientific journal Cortex, is titled Enhanced Mind-Matter Interactions Following rTMS-Induced Frontal Lobe Inhibition.

The research scientists believe the study confirms there is a filter in the brain actively inhibiting your Psi energy.

The Role of Psi and rTMS in Psychic Phenomena

Psi abilities refer to various psychic phenomena, including:

• Telepathy: Mind-to-mind communication
• Clairvoyance: Perceiving distant or future events
• Precognition: Knowing events before they happen
• Psychokinesis: Influencing objects with the mind
• After Death Communication (AFD): communications with the dead, such as dreams, feeling the presence of the deceased, and having conversations with the deceased.

To explore these abilities, Freedman and his team—Malcolm Binns, Jed Meltzer, Rohila Hashimi, and Robert Chen—used repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). This non-invasive technique temporarily alters brain activity by sending magnetic pulses to specific regions.

By inhibiting activity in the left medial middle frontal region, they observed significant psi-related effects, suggesting this area may suppress latent psychic abilities. In experiments, participants with these temporary brain alterations influenced a Random Event Generator (REG) by shifting outcomes on a computer screen that randomly selected between 0s and 1s.

"These findings are potentially transformative for the way we view interactions between the brain and seemingly random events," said Dr. Freedman.

Evidence of ESP in History?

The belief in psychic abilities has been prevalent for centuries. Historical figures such as Nostradamus and Edgar Cayce have been credited with foreseeing future events.

• Nostradamus (1503–1566), a French apothecary and reputed seer, published numerous prophecies that some claim predicted major world events, including the Great Fire of London and the rise of Adolf Hitler.
• Edgar Cayce (1877–1945), an American psychic, gained fame for his detailed predictions and alleged ability to diagnose illnesses while in a trance.

The study in Cortex suggests that, rather than being rare gifts, such abilities may be natural but actively inhibited by the brain.

 Evolution and Suppressed Psychic Abilities

If psychic abilities exist, why have they not become dominant evolutionary traits? The study speculates that evolution may have suppressed these abilities due to their impracticality in daily survival. However, many people report minor psychic experiences, such as sensing when someone is about to call before they do.

The first two groups showed no change in psi abilities. However, the third group—those who received rTMS to the left medial middle frontal region—exhibited a notable increase in psi effects.

"This study confirmed our hypothesis," Freedman stated in a report from the BIAL Foundation. "Individuals with neurological or reversible rTMS-induced frontal lesions may represent a useful group for detection and replication of this phenomenon."

To investigate further, researchers recruited 108 healthy participants and divided them into three groups. Each group underwent different rTMS treatments:

1. Right medial middle frontal region stimulation
2. Placebo (no actual change in brain activity)
3. Left medial middle frontal region stimulation

 A Critical Brain Filter

The left medial middle frontal region is known for its role in executive functioning, including:

• Decision-making
• Planning
• Goal-oriented behavior
• Impulse control

This area helps focus attention and suppress irrelevant stimuli. Now, researchers suggest it may also be responsible for filtering out psychic abilities, preventing them from emerging in everyday life.

Implications for Future Research

If further studies confirm these findings, they could revolutionize our understanding of human consciousness. This research may open new doors in neuroscience, psychology, and even quantum physics, bridging the gap between science and phenomena long dismissed as pseudoscience.
