Purse Snatching of DHS Sec. Kristi Noem Leads to Arrest – Second Man on the Run; Both Entered U.S. Illegally

Developing Story

  • Stunning Security Breach: DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse was stolen during a family dinner in Washington, D.C., with one illegal immigrant arrested and another fugitive still being hunted.
  • Federal Dragnet Expands: Authorities have identified the second suspect, believed to also be in the U.S. illegally, and are tracking him aggressively.

By Samuel Lopez – USA Herald

In a stunning twist that’s gripping Washington, a man living in the United States illegally has been arrested for allegedly stealing the purse of none other than Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Even more explosive — federal authorities have launched a manhunt for a second illegal alien suspect who remains on the run.

Sources confirm that Noem’s purse was stolen last Sunday night as she dined with family at a popular Washington, D.C., restaurant. Noem’s purse contained $3,000 cash, as well as her DHS access badge, her passport, various credit cards, blank checks, a set of keys and her driver’s license.

The investigation is being handled by the Metropolitan Police, the U.S. Secret Service, and now ICE has joined in.

Although officials have yet to publicly name the establishment, preliminary reports suggest she was in a relatively casual dining setting just blocks from several major federal buildings.

According to a senior law enforcement source, Noem’s vehicle — and her purse inside of it — were parked within what should have been a heavily monitored area. How thieves managed to swoop in so brazenly remains a major point of embarrassment for those responsible for the safety of top federal officials.

According to Ed Martin, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, it is not believed the suspect targeted Noem because she was the Department of Homeland Security chief.

“There is no indication it was because of that. It was frankly, it was a nice looking purse,” Martin said.

At the time of this report, officials have not released the names, nationalities, or full backgrounds of the two men involved. What we do know, according to Martin, is that both individuals were living in the United States illegally.

The arrested suspect is currently in federal custody, but his future remains uncertain: Will the government push for immediate deportation? Or will the suspect serve prison time in the U.S. before being expelled? Those decisions may soon be influenced by strong political pressure from the Trump Administration, which has already signaled its intent to take swift, no-nonsense action in cases involving undocumented criminal conduct.

Meanwhile, authorities are "hot on the trail" of the second suspect and are reportedly moving rapidly to corner him before he can escape beyond U.S. Borders.

If the absconding man is a Mexican or South American national, one possible theory is that he may attempt to flee through the southern border. However, multiple federal sources have emphasized that today’s U.S.-Mexico border is far more heavily reinforced than ever before, making such an escape increasingly unlikely. In short: the clock is ticking, and authorities are closing in.

Federal officials also warn that anyone caught aiding or harboring the fugitive could face serious federal charges themselves. A massive dragnet is now underway.

This incident couldn’t have come at a more politically volatile time. With the immigration debate reignited across America, the fact that two undocumented men allegedly targeted one of the nation’s top Homeland Security officials is sending a seismic shock through Washington.

Critics are already seizing on the situation to argue that immigration enforcement must be dramatically tightened — not just at the border, but across the country.

"This event highlights, in the starkest terms possible, the dangers of unchecked illegal immigration," one senior official told USA Herald. "If senior government leaders aren't safe, what does that say about ordinary Americans?"
