Kardashian-Jenner Defamation Lawsuit Against Ray J Enters Critical Phase as Legal Teams Prepare for Personal Service and Legal Strategy

On The Docket

  • The lawsuit, filed just eight days ago, is still in its procedural infancy — personal service on Ray J likely pending.
  • Kardashian and Jenner’s legal team, led by powerhouse attorney Alex Spiro, are expected to deploy top-tier investigators and process servers to locate and serve Ray J personally.
  • Once served, Ray J will have a narrow legal window to respond, setting the stage for a potential courtroom clash.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Filed October 1, 2025, in Los Angeles Superior Court, the defamation complaint brought by Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner targets Ray J (Ray Norwood Jr.) for statements alleging that the two are under federal investigation for racketeering. The plaintiffs assert that Ray J’s comments, made across high-visibility platforms — including a May TMZ special and a September livestream viewed by millions — constitute false and malicious defamation.

The complaint describes Ray J’s remarks as part of a “sustained campaign of harassment and defamation,” fueled by animosity dating back to their decades-old relationship and his “willingness to lie for attention.” Kardashian and Jenner’s attorneys argue that the statements were intentionally crafted to damage their reputation and stir media frenzy.

The plaintiffs’ counsel, Alex Spiro — known for his work defending Alec Baldwin — has moved swiftly, alleging “substantial and ongoing harm” to their clients’ public and professional standing.

According to the complaint, reviewed by USA Herald, Ray J’s inflammatory statements include:

  • “Racketeering charges against the Kardashians would be appropriate.”
  • “The federal RICO I’m about to drop on Kris and Kim is about to be crazy… the feds is coming.”

The lawsuit directly rebuts these claims, asserting:

“No such federal investigation exists; no law enforcement agency has initiated any criminal proceedings or investigations related to racketeering charges against Ms. Kardashian or Ms. Jenner.”

No supporting evidence was provided by Ray J, and no public federal filings or indictments corroborate his statements. The complaint emphasizes that the remarks caused a “media storm” with reputational and financial fallout — damage that will be quantified at trial.

The case, filed under the Los Angeles County Superior Court system, seeks compensatory and punitive damages, alleging defamation per se and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

What Happens Next in the Litigation Phase

Because the case was filed less than ten days ago, the summons and complaint are likely still awaiting personal service upon Ray J. Under California law, personal service is a fundamental requirement for establishing jurisdiction and moving the case forward.

In high-profile cases like this, service can be tricky — celebrities often maintain multiple residences, private security, and undisclosed travel schedules. To overcome this, Spiro’s legal team will almost certainly rely on licensed private investigators and veteran process servers skilled in locating evasive parties.

Once service is confirmed, the procedural clock begins ticking:

  • Ray J will have 30 days from service to file and serve his Answer or other responsive pleading.
  • His attorneys may move to dismiss, argue lack of malice, or assert that his statements were opinion or hyperbole protected by the First Amendment.
  • Kardashian and Jenner’s team could, in turn, seek early momentum through a Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings or an Anti-SLAPP motion defense rebuttal, asserting that Ray J’s comments meet the threshold of knowing falsehoods causing reputational harm.

Should the case survive the pleading stage, discovery will follow — potentially opening the door to depositions, subpoenas to media companies, and digital forensic requests to verify video posts and view counts. Given the visibility of the parties and the stakes involved, the court may also consider issuing protective orders to control pretrial publicity.

If the court determines Ray J acted with actual malice — knowingly or recklessly disregarding the truth — the plaintiffs could secure significant punitive damages.
