Private equity heavyweight Blue Owl Capital Inc. said Wednesday it has completed its first strategic equity and secondaries fund, securing more than $3 billion in capital commitments in what amounts to a decisive expansion into a fast-evolving corner of the private markets.

The milestone — widely referred to as the Blue Owl $3B wrap up — underscores the firm’s push to deliver long-duration capital to sponsors seeking flexibility in managing prized assets.

Targeting Continuation Vehicles and Minority Stakes

The newly closed vehicle, Blue Owl Strategic Equity, is designed to supply long-term capital to what the firm described as “high-quality” private equity sponsors. The strategy centers on backing continuation vehicles and minority equity transactions that allow sponsors to extend ownership of strong-performing portfolio companies.

In effect, the fund aims to provide oxygen to assets sponsors believe still have room to run — without forcing a full exit.

“We're very pleased with the strong reception to our strategy, which reflects the growing need for private capital solutions across the market,” Blue Owl co-CEOs Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz said in a statement. “Sponsors are looking for long-term, aligned capital to support high-conviction assets, and BOSE is designed to meet that demand at scale. Our expansion into this strategy further demonstrates the breadth and reach of the Blue Owl platform.”

Broad Investor Support Across Channels

Blue Owl said the fund drew backing from investors across both its private wealth and institutional distribution channels, as well as related accounts. That cross-channel support, the firm said, demonstrates the product’s ability to access and execute differentiated opportunities in what it called an underpenetrated yet increasingly relevant market for partnership-oriented capital.

Hugh Boyle, managing director and strategic equity product specialist, framed the raise as validation of the firm’s position in a changing secondary landscape.

“This strategy's success reinforces Blue Owl's position in a rapidly evolving (general partner)-led market and reflects the trust investors place in our team and our approach,” Boyle said. He added that the fund reflects coordinated efforts between Blue Owl’s investment and distribution teams to deliver “differentiated, access-driven opportunities” across institutional and private wealth channels, marking what he described as a meaningful endorsement of the firm’s role within the secondary market.

Expanding a $307 Billion Platform

As of Dec. 31, Blue Owl managed more than $307 billion in assets, according to the company. The firm operates across three multi-strategy platforms: credit, real assets and general partner strategic capital.

Through those platforms, Blue Owl says it provides private capital solutions to businesses seeking growth, while also offering institutional investors and insurance companies access to alternative investment opportunities.

Details regarding legal counsel advising Blue Owl on the fund were not immediately available Wednesday, and a company representative did not respond to a request for further information.

With the Blue Owl $3B wrap up now complete, the firm has planted a sizable flag in the strategic equity arena — betting that as sponsors search for flexibility and investors hunt for yield, the demand for long-term, aligned capital will only intensify.
