A Brief Look at Speaker of the House Pelosi’s Temper Tantrums

Pelosi

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi is quite the character. She has served as the Democratic Representative of California since 1987. After being elected by a slim margin (32% -36%) in a special election after the death of Congresswoman Sala Burton, she has enjoyed 17 two-term cycles.

Throughout that time, she has consistently used pettiness and classless, demeaning rhetoric to try an make herself the toughest person in the room. What is interesting is she does not seem to realize, her own behaviors may have contributed to igniting and fueling the culmination of aggression at the Capitol on Jan 6.

Rant After Trump's Second Impeachment Acquittal

After Saturday's 2nd impeachment acquittal of former President Donald J. Trump, Speaker Pelosi entered the news conference ranting. While talking, she not only hit the podium to emphasize her anger after calling Senators cowardly for following the Constitution, but also belittled the act of censure akin to a slap on the wrist for using incorrect stationary.

(This leads one to wonder - what are these career legislators doing with their time if they are able to write up censures for using stationary inappropriately?)

"They let everyone off the hook. All these cowardly Senators [forcefully hit the podium] who couldn't face up to what the president did - and what was at stake for our country are going to now have a chance to give a little slap on the wrist? We censure people for using stationary for the wrong purpose. We don't censure people for inciting insurrection that kills people in the Capitol.

Madam Speaker then also called for an investigation to hunt for possible "Pro-Trump members of Congress that were accomplices to this insurrection, if they aided and abetted the crimes" she would push for prosecution. There was seemingly no conclusion to this investigation at the time of this writing.

Speaker Pelosi on Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene

Just two weeks prior, Pelosi was in a news conference condemning GOP leadership for not removing Marjorie Taylor Greene from her Education committee. Pelosi again, passionately exploded rather than provide the opportunity for the proper investigation to take place. Rep Greene, did in fact inappropriately post conspiracy-like remarks over a year before, and behaved in a manner unbecoming of a House Representative. Unfortunately, Pelosi felt the need to make a spectacle rather than allow procedural investigation and consequences to occur naturally.

Pelosi stated, "What are they thinking? Or maybe that's too generous of a phrase," in reference to the GOP leadership. She then went on to insinuate that the GOP leadership mocked the death of school-aged children in past school shootings. The disrespect for colleagues, inappropriate outbursts, and erratic show condemning those who are following procedure and investigating issues that arise, fail to uphold the integrity of the House of Representatives.

Placating the Squad

Let's not forget the infamous tearing of the State of the Union speech and 'Petty Clap-Back' tantrum during the 2020 State of the Union address. Due to that outrageous and uncalled for behavior, even Democratic colleagues were calling for her to be kicked out of office.

"I agree with Jonathan Turley -- who is a Democrat -- who wrote this morning that she really should be kicked out of office for demeaning the entire nature of both the Constitution and the House of Representatives. Remember," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich continued, "he is delivering a constitutionally required address so in a sense she is ripping up a document that exists under the Constitution."

"And, she just proved...how divided the state of the union is...by the kind of petty, childish behavior that she personally exhibited," he stated. "It displayed to the entire country how vicious and petty the Democrats have become."

First Impeachment Trial

Even in September of 2020, Congressman Andy Bigg's and the Freedom Caucus presented a proposal to Vacate the Chair to remove Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. The following statement was issued:

“Weeks ago, I, along with the membership of the House Freedom Caucus, began an effort to vacate the chair to remove Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Speaker Pelosi has abused her position, demonized millions of Americans, and extracted political revenge on President Trump by impeaching him. Millions of Americans, including many of our constituents, agree that Nancy Pelosi must go now.

“I will not stop fighting to remove Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy has already indicated that he might use the Freedom Caucus’s motion to respond in the event that Speaker Pelosi abuses her position yet again to impeach President Trump or Attorney General Barr over the Supreme Court vacancy. I will continue to work with our Republican leadership and our conference to ensure that Nancy Pelosi is no longer able to destroy our republic as Speaker of the House.”

Pelosi During Bill Clinton's Impeachment Trial: Revenge on GOP

During the Clinton impeachment hearings and subsequent trial, Pelosi, long time friend of  Hillary and Bill Clinton, stood up in defense of former President Bill Clinton. President Clinton allegedly committed perjury and was also shown to be a sexual deviant in the court of public opinion.

“Today the Republican majority is not judging the president with fairness, but impeaching him with a vengeance," then-House Minority Leader Pelosi declared on the House floor in December 1998.

She continued, "In the investigation of the president, fundamental principles which Americans hold dear -- fairness, privacy, checks and balances -- have been seriously violated and why? Because we are here today because the Republicans in the House are paralyzed with hatred of President Clinton. ... Until the Republicans free themselves of that hatred, our country will suffer.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was asked about Pelosi's remarks. Gingrich said, unlike the current impeachment push against Trump, Ken Starr's report alleged crimes against Clinton, prompting the House to act.

"In the case of Clinton, he had actually broken the law. He had committed a felony in a case involving sexual predation against an employee. If that happened today, people would be going crazy. That's not the case here," said Gingrich.

It appears, each side of the aisle will do whatever is necessary to protect their own. Little did Pelosi know that the words she spoke so passionately regarding the vile hatred and anger paralyzing Republicans would overtake the Democrats two decades later and divide the nation, possibly beyond repair.

If we replaced the words Republicans with Democrats and Clinton with Trump, we have a too accurate statement describing our nation's current circumstances.

We are here today because the Democrats in the House are paralyzed with hatred of President Trump. Until the Democrats free themselves of that hatred, our country will suffer.
