The Role of the DHS
The Department of Homeland Security plays a very critical role in the protection of the United States of America. The responsibilities of the organization include securing the borders, shielding the nation from terrorist threats, and helping the country deal with natural disasters and outbreaks. Ending the Department of Homeland Security would place the United States in harm’s way on so many levels.
Ocasio-Cortez has also previously called for the abolition of ICE. Last month, the congresswoman likened detention centers at the Southern border to “concentration camps,” something which many Americans pushed back against.
