Asos Co-Founder Quentin Griffiths Dies After Fall From Pattaya High-Rise
Quentin Griffiths, the British entrepreneur who co-founded online fashion retailer ASOS, has died after falling from an 18-story building in Thailand. He was 58.
Griffiths was found dead on Feb. 9 at the base of a luxury hotel in the seaside resort city of Pattaya, where he had been living.
Police said Griffiths had been alone in his 17th-floor suite and that the door was locked from the inside. Authorities reported no signs of forced entry or evidence of foul play. A full autopsy has been ordered, though results could take months.
“It’s a real mystery,” a source close to his family told the The Sun. “The phrase ‘suspicious circumstances’ has been used but we just don’t know yet.”
Investigators said that Griffiths had been involved in ongoing legal disputes that may have contributed to stress in the months before his death.
He had separated from his second wife, a Thai national, who accused him of misappropriating more than $673,000 from a company they operated together. According to the Sun, Griffiths was arrested last year after she alleged he forged documents to sell land shares without her knowledge. He was later released, and the investigation was continuing at the time of his death.
