AT&T announced this week they will be rolling mobile 5G coverage. This is a historic moment in wireless technology as they will be the first ever company to offer 5G.
“We’ve worked closely with our technology suppliers to reach this mobile 5G milestone,” AT&T’s press release said. “While the initial launch starts small and will be limited, as the 5G ecosystem elvolves cusotmers will see enhancements in coverage, speeds and devices.”
The 5G mobile data is live in some parts of the country right now including parts of Atlanta, Georgia, Charlotte, North Carolina, Houston and Dallas, Texas, and Jacksonvillbe, Florida, just to name a few.
AT&T says they plan to release the 5G in even more cities on the west coast in 2019. Some of those cities are Las Vegas, Nevada, Los Angeles, California, San Diego, California, San Francisco and San Jose, Caifornia.
This is the first taste of the mobile 5G era,” AT&T’s Cheif Technology Officer, Andre Fuetsch said. “ Being first, you can expect us to evolve very quickly. It’s early on the 5G journey and we’re ready to learn fast and continually iterate in the months ahead,” he said.
To acces the 5g network, customers will HAVE to have 5G compatible devices and phones. Currently there are only a hand full of devices capable of connecting to this super new and fast 5G network. There is one phone from Samsung, the Qualcomm SnapDragon X50 5G modem, and the NETGEAR Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot. As the year progesses, more and mroe devices will be created so more people can connect to this first and one of a kind 5G internet.
“As the ecosystem evolves, this technology will ultimately change teh way we live and conduct business,” Mo Katibeh, AT&T’s Cheif Marketing Officer said. “We expect that our initial adopters will b einnovative and growing buisiness. They’re teh starting pont for what we think will be a technology revolution like we’ve never seen bedore.”
