According to the police report and subsequent statements, the arrest occurred under chaotic conditions.

Scheffler, who was attempting to enter Gate 1 at the Valhalla Golf Club, allegedly disregarded Detective Gillis’s instructions, leading to a physical altercation where Gillis was reportedly dragged and knocked down by Scheffler’s vehicle.

Gillis then arrested Scheffler, charging him with felony assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals.

In the “Failure to Activate” form, Detective Gillis explained his reasons for not powering up his body camera. He noted that he was preoccupied with directing traffic in front of the gate due to an earlier fatal accident on Shelbyville Road.

His account of the incident detailed how he stopped Scheffler’s vehicle, advised him against proceeding, and subsequently got knocked down when Scheffler advanced despite the warning.

Scottie Scheffler’s Response

Following his arrest, Scheffler took to social media to share his side of the story, stating that he was directed by police officers to proceed.
