Mateer recounted his bewilderment and apprehension in July 2020 upon discovering Paxton’s intent to personally champion a legal motion. The case in question was instigated by the Roy F. & Joann Cole Mitte Foundation against Nate Paul, and Mateer expressed it was baffling why Paxton would dive deep into this legal maelstrom himself.
The accusations against Paxton aren’t limited to aiding the Austin real estate magnate. They span from him purportedly orchestrating a settlement in the whistleblower case to conceal his actions, to having his office carry out a seemingly deceitful probe into these claims.
Senate’s Tense Atmosphere and Pretrial Decisions
The impeachment trial’s sequel began fashionably late, delayed by an hour, due to deliberations over document admissions. Both Paxton and the prosecution have settled on presenting close to 80 exhibits each, as shared with the Senate.
