Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) CEO Lisa Su says it’s time for the tech industry to “think bigger” about the transformative power of artificial intelligence, as the company unveils a massive new partnership with OpenAI that could reshape the AI hardware landscape.
Su described the partnership as the culmination of “years-long discussions” with OpenAI, predicting it could generate “tens of billions of dollars” in revenue.

In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Su dismissed suggestions that current AI investments may be excessive.
“I would say that’s probably thinking too small,” she said. “You have to really look at what the power of this technology can do for the world.”
Su emphasized that AMD is “investing at the right pace” to stay competitive as AI technology evolves, adding that “when companies and partners make bold moves, it will be rewarded.”
The AMD–OpenAI Megadeal
AMD’s announcement of a multibillion-dollar deal with OpenAI sent its shares soaring—rising 35% Monday and another 4% before Tuesday’s opening bell. Under the agreement, AMD will supply up to 6 gigawatts of GPUs to OpenAI over several years, starting with the launch of its MI450 chips in late 2026.
