In a seismic shift for the industrial manufacturing landscape, Crane Co. has struck a $1.15 billion deal to acquire Precision Sensors & Instrumentation (PSI) from Baker Hughes, launching a power move that could redefine the contours of aerospace, nuclear, and process technology industries.

The Players and the Price Tag

The deal, announced Monday, sees Crane Co., represented by legal powerhouse K&L Gates LLP, buying PSI—currently under the wing of energy tech giant Baker Hughes, advised by Baker & McKenzie LLP. The all-cash acquisition underscores Crane’s ambition to solidify its command over high-stakes, high-performance sensor technology.

A Triple Threat of Tech Brands

Crane’s takeover will bring under its wing three elite PSI brands: Druck, Reuter-Stokes, and Panametrics. These brands aren’t just extensions—they’re strategic accelerators, engineered to dovetail with Crane’s core business segments: Aerospace & Electronics and Process Flow Technologies.

According to Crane CEO Max Mitchell, these technologies are the missing puzzle pieces that will supercharge Crane’s existing capabilities. PSI, known for rugged sensor-based innovations, is projected to deliver $390 million in net sales in 2025 alone.

Druck: Boosting the Jetstream

The Druck brand is set to fortify Crane’s Aerospace & Electronics arm, enhancing its pressure-sensing muscle for environmental control, hydraulics, and engine monitoring. But Druck isn’t stopping at airborne tech—it brings ground-based test and calibration gear into the mix, widening Crane’s flight path into defense and aviation systems.

Reuter-Stokes: Nuclear Might Multiplied

Reuter-Stokes might be Crane’s nuclear option—literally. The acquisition will effectively double Crane’s Nuclear division, expanding both capacity and capability. The move positions Crane as a central player in the global renaissance of nuclear energy and homeland security, tapping into urgent geopolitical needs and energy independence narratives.

Panametrics: The Silent Sentinel of Process Industries

The Panametrics division adds surgical precision to Crane’s arsenal with ultrasonic flow meters and high-end moisture analyzers. These technologies quietly power the behind-the-scenes heroes of modern infrastructure—LNG transport systems, chemical manufacturing, cryogenics, pipelines, and even wastewater treatment. It's the invisible tech that keeps entire cities humming and economies flowing.

Strategic Chess Moves and Long-Term Vision

“This is not just an acquisition—it’s an evolutionary leap,” Mitchell declared. “PSI’s elite sensor tech is a precision fit for our mission-critical goals in aerospace, defense, nuclear, and industrial sensing.”

On the flip side, Baker Hughes’ Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli framed the divestment as a laser-focused pivot. “This is about streamlining for strength,” Simonelli said. “The PSI portfolio was gold, and this transaction proves its value. Under Crane’s stewardship, its potential will explode.”
