Nineteen people are unaccounted for following a Deadly Explosion at a Tennessee munitions manufacturing plant on Friday, October 10.
The explosion, which occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m., devastated the Accurate Energetic Systems facility in Humphreys County, roughly 60 miles west of Nashville.
Deadly Explosion with no Survivors
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis described the explosion as a “very devastating blast” during a Saturday press conference. He confirmed that no survivors have been recovered, and the search continues for the people who remain missing.
“When asked to describe the building where the blast occurred, there’s nothing to describe. It’s gone,” Davis told reporters, according to Reuters.
The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office identified the site as the Accurate Energetic Systems military munitions plant located in the Bucksnort area. Emergency services were immediately deployed to the scene. Officials urged residents to avoid the area and allow first responders to continue their work safely.
History of Safety Violations
Accurate Energetic Systems, established in 1980, manufactures high-grade explosives for demolition and military use, including products such as linear shaped charges and claymore mines. The company has a documented history of safety violations and hazardous working conditions, according to reports from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
